Lawrence Bruce was born April 2nd, 1894 to James M. Bruce and Willie Jane Skiles in Henry Co., KY. He had two siblings, Neb Bruce and Willie J. Bruce. Lawrence actually added a "C" as a middle initial because he didn't like that he wasn't born with a middle name. His family called him L.C. for short.

L.C., or "Jack" as his friends affectionately nicknamed him, left home at the age of 16 and at age 22 joined the service. Here is a brief timeline of his Naval History.

Naval History

-Enlisted in the Navy on November 11, 1915

-First Receiving Ship in Norfolk, VA: December 31, 1915

-USS Pennsylvania: June 30, 1916

-Discharged in New York, NY on November 10, 1919

-Enrolled in the Navy Reserve in New Orleans on February 7, 1920

-Released from Active Duty in Great Lakes, IL on September 12, 1922

Settling Down on the Farm

He married Ella Pearl Beverly on May 14, 1921 in Owen County, KY. On October 24, 1922 they welcomed twins Ruby Katheryn and Robert Kelly and raised their family in Mason, KY.

L.C. died suddenly in his kitchen on May 3, 1950 with his devoted wife, Ella, holding on to him. He died of Coronary Thrombosis, or a heart attack, and is buried in Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, KY.
